History of
As-Shofa School
As-Shofa (الصفا / Ash-Shafā) comes from the Arabic word meaning purity, clarity, and sincerity of heart. Yayasan As-Shofa was founded on May 2, 1991 — Indonesia’s National Education Day, a meaningful date that reflects its lifelong commitment to education.
Founded by Alm. Ust. Drs. H. Syafwi Khalil, M.Pd, a mubaligh of IKMI, the foundation began with a simple yet powerful dream, to create a school system that integrates strong academics, Islamic values, and full-day character development. The journey started in the 1991–1992 academic year with the opening of Sekolah Dasar Islam As-Shofa, enrolling just 10 students and supported by 4 teachers. Classes were initially held in a mosque facility, reflecting the humble beginnings of what would later grow into one of Pekanbaru’s leading Islamic school institutions. Over time, the foundation expanded its commitment to holistic education.
Nowadays, Sekolah Islam As-Shofa provides complete levels of education : Kindergarten (est. 2005), Junior High School (est. 2000), and Senior High School (est. 2007) — at its main school building on Jl. Tuanku Tambusai Ujung / Jl. As-Shofa, Pekanbaru.
Being the first and oldest integrated Islamic school in Pekanbaru, As-Shofa stands as a pioneer in shaping outstanding Islamic generations.
